Ivan Medrano is a Filipino-Australian new media artist interrogating the nexus of perception, digitisation, and the self. Drawing upon a background in editorial fashion imagery, Medrano employs its conventions in investigating a human experience rhythmed by the march of technology.
Medrano’s work emphasizes fashion’s utility as a vehicle for embodied signals; housing recognition of belonging, exclusion, and the negotiation of identity. However, technology has accelerated the exchange of this language, furthering the infusion of algorithmic processes into human systems of influence. Medrano investigates this intersection, questioning technology’s role in the ongoing process of cultivating a self.
Medrano was a creative behind the first-ever digital fashion editorials for VOGUE Philippines and PAPER Magazine.
