Ivan Medrano is a Filipino-Australian new media artist exploring the disruption of physical reality in the digital age. Medrano employs a range of new media techniques such as 3D modeling and facial scanning, alongside the manipulation of digital sheets of metal to explore reflections of light.
His expressionist compositions, influenced by his editorial background, invite viewers into a space of contemplation. Interrogating the binary dualisms of the mechanical and natural, the physical and virtual, and the tangible and intangible, his work illustrates the degradation of the physical human experience. However, this deterioration is also paired with the optimistic solace of a digital oasis.
Medrano is a pioneering figure in the digital fashion space, serving as a lead creative behind the first-ever digital fashion editorials in history for VOGUE Philippines and PAPER Magazine.
